WIP - 2024
We find ourselves living in an overwhelming jungle of concrete, where the feeling of suffocation is all too common. My latest architectural project, nestled in a small alley in Ho Chi Minh City, seeks to counter this oppressive urban environment. The shape of the land is not perpendicular, and the area is small at just 56 square meters, requiring a well-thought-out layout program. Central to the design are the elements of light and ventilation, which I have maximized to create an open and airy space.
The integration of greenery screens not only ensures privacy but also promotes mental well-being by introducing natural elements into the home. These living walls bring a sense of tranquility and a breath of fresh air, both literally and metaphorically. The use of wood and other natural materials further strengthens the connection to nature, creating a harmonious and soothing living environment.
In addition to their aesthetic and mental health benefits, greenery layers can effectively reduce the heat from direct sunlight. Studies have shown that such green walls can lower the temperature of the building's exterior by up to 10 degrees Celsius. This natural cooling effect not only makes the interior more comfortable but also contributes to energy savings by reducing the need for air conditioning.
In this project, the fusion of natural elements with modern design principles shows a new wave of sustainable living. By bringing the outside in, we can transform urban living spaces into serene retreats that nurture both body and soul.
